12th April Re-Opening

Latest information regarding the return to face-to-face lessons at JMA

ATTENDING LESSONS

All JMA pupils (aged High School age and above), accompanying guardians, and staff, must wear a face mask at all times while attending lessons at JMA, this includes entering the JMA building, during lessons, and exiting the building. Primary School aged pupils and below, and anyone exempt due to medical reasons, are not required to wear a mask, but can choose to wear a mask or visor for added self protection if they want.

Pupils and staff that are required to wear a mask at all times, can wear a visor as additional protection but a visor worn by itself is not classed as a mask/face covering.

If you attend lessons and are required to wear a mask but have forgotten to bring your mask, there will be disposable face masks available to purchase for 50p, speak to a JMA team member to make this purchase.

If you do not want to wear a mask for lessons but are required to do so by the government guidelines, as set out above, then you will not be able to undertake face-to-face lessons. We advise all pupils that do not wish to wear a mask, that are required to do so, to inform us in advance of their first lesson and we can arrange for your lessons to continue online.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding regarding the latest measures to protect our staff and pupils.

LESSON TIMES

Please arrive at your lesson time to allow the smooth running of the new timetable schedule.

Our latest face-to-face timetable accommodates a 5 minute gap between lessons, this is to avoid contact between pupils, and gives our team time to adequately clean surfaces and instruments after each lesson.

DROP OFF

The waiting room will be out of bounds so please wait outside the academy before your lesson.

A member of the JMA team will be with you when it is time for your lesson so please be patient and don’t worry that the academy front door is locked. As the waiting room is unavailable it means that guardians cannot wait inside the academy while their child is having a lesson. We have a designated chair in each teaching room for guardians who would like to sit in the lesson, but please note this is strictly limited to one guardian per lesson. We would encourage you to wait outside or in your car if at all possible.

Guardians accompanying pupils that wish to use the single chair designated in each teaching room, must be from the same family/support bubble.

The car park to the rear of the building will be open and available for you to use.

THE BUILDING & TEACHING ROOMS

There are hand sanitiser dispensers on the wall in the entranceway and in the teaching rooms.

We would ask that all pupils and accompanying guardians use this at the start and end of each lesson.

Our teaching rooms have been set up so all instruments, pupils and teachers remain at a minimum of 2 metres apart, and in most cases more than that. The stools and seats have been set out to ensure maximum distancing, please avoid moving them.

We request that movement around the JMA building is limited to entering the building and making your way directly to the appropriate teaching room, please do not walk around any other part of the building around/during lesson times.

Windows and doors will remain open to maintain good circulation throughout the building.

DURING THE LESSON

All pupils must bring their own guitars, plectrums, drum sticks and music books to the lesson. This is very important and if the pupil turns up to the lesson without the correct equipment then the lesson cannot take place.

We will be minimising the amount of contact the pupils have with the JMA instruments so please keep the adjustment of the drum kits and amps to what is absolutely necessary only.

At this time teachers will not be giving out any physical sheet music, lesson notes or handouts in person, these will continue to be emailed.

AFTER THE LESSON

Please exit the building through the front door, being aware that the next pupil may be waiting outside. If there is a pupil outside we encourage you to walk the opposite way to them around the block and to the car park.

All our teachers have detailed instructions on how to wipe down any instruments, music stands, door handles, light switches etc, in the five minute cross over time to ensure good hygiene and safety.

The whole building will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised at the start and end of every teaching day.

OUT OF BOUNDS AREAS

There will be no toilet facilities, or waiting room available.

As stated above please do not walk around any part of the building unnecessarily before, during, and after lessons.

PAYMENT

We will not be taking physical payments of card or cash, all payments are to continue through the invoicing and online payment system. Payments for the month block of lessons are to be made before attending the first lesson of the month.

Please be aware that the terms and conditions remain in place and any missed lessons will be chargeable.

If you intend to book off any lessons, as always we request that you tell us before the invoice for the month is issued.

SHOWING SIGNS OF SYMPTOMS

If you are showing the following symptoms of Covid 19 (but not limited to) please do not come to the academy for your lesson –

A continuous cough

A temperature or fever

A loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell

If in doubt please do not put anyone else at risk by coming to the academy. We will happily change your lesson to an online lesson instead.
