Matthew’s passion for music was evident from the start, listening and dancing to as much music as he could at home and school, and was formalised at age nine when he started learning to play the keyboard. He progressed to electric organ and then went on to studying piano, to a Grade 8 ABRSM standard, which he specialised in for performance, composition and teaching. Since completing his Music Degree, and for the last ten years, he has played keyboard and sung in Preston-based band The Jackpot Golden Boys, who have achieved local fame through numerous gigs, online recordings and in achieving the runner-up spot in Battle of the Bands, supporting the likes of Skindred and more recently Nice Peter. Matthew has also played and performed on guitar and clarinet since his time as a student at Runshaw College, and arranged parts on these instruments for various musical projects. He has sung in and directed numerous choirs including Preston’s Red Rose Chorus and One Voice Community Choir, a barbershop quartet and smaller chamber choirs. Matthew has written three solo pop CDs , scored strings for two student film projects, and worked with children to produce ten children’s songs which were recorded for a school. He also produced, directed and wrote the words and music for a Nativity entitled Star in the Sky. He is a fully-trained primary music teacher who takes great joy in inspiring others to enjoy Music, more recently including group tuition exploring African, Caribbean and traditional Chinese Music as well as samba and ukulele playing. Outside of Music tuition Matthew continues to enjoy playing and singing with various Preston-based groups, most recently playing in the Blues/Improv covers band Blue Harvest, performing such classics as Huey Lewis & the News’ Power of Love and Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode.
